ZANZIBAR ISLAND HOLIDAY
Most prominent of the Spice Islands, Zanzibar has a potent mix of history, legends and unique cultures. Visually stunning with exceptional natural beaches and the haunting architecture of Zanzibar town, the island has lured travelers to its shores for centuries. Its past was dominated by merchants, rulers, explorers, scholars - today tourism is playing a key role. Zanzibar provides the perfect compliment to an East African safari.

Zanzibar is famous for being a major producer of cloves, and infamous as being a slave entry-port, the old stone town of Zanzibar has a fascinating labyrinth of narrow winding streets lined with whitewashed, coral-rag houses with overhanging balconies and magnificently carved brass studded doors, shops, bazaars, mosques, courtyards, squares etc. Outside town there are more ruined palaces, Shirazi remains, Persian baths, and magnificent palm fringed beaches with warm clear water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Stone Town
Zanzibar Stone Town is a unique place. The intriguing history tells us about brave seaStone Town traders, explorers, Sultans and the fragrance of exotic spices. The exceptional architecture and construction of the coral stone buildings and narrow streets carries the imprints of the influences of various cultures and traditions brought in by the Stone Town inhabitants. Each building; its windows, its carved doors, its walls tells its own historical past.

In the year 2000, Zanzibar Stone Town got inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Following this, some committed citizens and well-wishers interested in conserving and preserving Stone Town, decided to form a non-governmental organisation. The Zanzibar Stone Town Heritage Society was officially registered in June 2002. Currently, the Society has a membership of over 100 members, and works with communities within Stone Town in preserving its heritage and culture.

Pemba Island
Pemba Island -Pemba Island the northernmost Island of the archipelago. Pemba Island is still the world's major clove producer, but has now slipped into its more traditional role of being an Island Paradise with small inter-island trade. Chake wharf is now mainly used for swimming & fishing.

Pemba was seized by the Sultan of Muscat (now Oman) in the 17th century. He was so enchanted by the Spice Islands that he installed himself in Zanzibar and ruled Muscat from there. When the Western Colonial powers came to East Africa the British forced the Sultanates of Muscat and Zanzibar to separate and then administered the Spice Islands in the name of the Sultan.

Zanzibar holidays
Beach holidays
description
Situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, this beach hotel is a true paradise retreat, set within a secluded bay on the east coast of Zanzibar, an island just off the east coast of Tanzania, Africa. We are a modestly sized hotel with 16 traditional sea view cottages.

The perfect beach
We offer a sublime paradise island experience. The bay's sapphire blue waters - protected by the reef one kilometre from the shore - are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. If the midday sun becomes too strong you can retreat into the balmy shade of the palm trees that line the white sandy beach, and sip a long, cool drink.

Relax
This is a tranquil location — the ideal place to relax and enjoy Zanzibar's distinctive, mellow pace. You can dive into the crystal clear waters of the Indian ocean, or stretch out and soak up the sun on the beach. It is the ideal retreat for those looking for that extra special honeymoon, or a holiday with an air of exclusivity.

Enjoy
We have our own traditional wooden long boat with which our guests may gain access to deep waters before and beyond the reef. This provides the ideal opportunity to go game fishing for tuna, marlin, barracuda and king fish.

We also have snorkelling out at Mnemba Atoll where you can will find many coral species and marine life; and at Kizimkazi where sharks, dolphins and turtles can be found. Scuba diving can be arranged whether it be a day dive or a Padi open water course.

Dine in style
With the experience of our consultant chef from England — who has spent time in the kitchens of the Dorchester Hotel, London; and the infamous Lucas Carton, one of Paris' finest 3 star Michelin restaurants — you can be assured that the crab, king prawn, and other fine local produce will be prepared and cooked to the highest of international standard.

The resort's beautiful gardens surround 16 beach front Zanzibarian cottages. You will find various local hand crafted Zanzibarian doors and traditional beds. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with Moroccan style walk in showers. Each cottage also has its own private terrace where guests may enjoy the sunrise and a leisurely breakfast.

The sea view cottages have traditional lime wash walls, and thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves. The size of our resort allows us to maintain a high standard of service, and even during peak-season the atmosphere remains relaxed, intimate and exclusive.

If you would like take a trip around the island, or to Stone Town — the historic, bustling, cultural core of Zanzibar — we can arrange a car. Alternately, if you prefer a bit more freedom, you could hire a 4×4 jeep, or a motorbike. Or you may prefer to take to the ocean, and go out for a day cruising on our long boat, and combine it with some big game fishing and snorkeling.
how to find us
We are located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar, an island on the east coast of Africa, about 60 kilometres from Tanzania's principal port of Dar es Salaam. High-speed ferries regularly call at Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam, as well as inexpensive commuter flights from the domestic terminal of the Dar es Salaam airport. The hotel is a 35 kilometre drive on a good tarmac road from Stone town.

Thank you and enjoy

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Routes

Marangu Route 8 Days  Affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola route", Marangu is by far the most popular route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. This could partly be as a result of the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 6 days, thereby getting to the summit one day earlier than on the Machame route.

Machame Route  Sometimes called the Whisky Route. This is a popular route up steep paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Icefields to join the Barafu Route to the summit.

Umbwe Route  The Umbwe route is one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach. It is probably the most scenic, non-technical route on Kilimanjaro. It is quite taxing, primarily due to the relatively fast ascent to higher altitude, but the rewards are plentiful.

Lemosho Route  This is the longest and most remote route to Kilimanjaro. After beautiful forests and moorlands it crosses the Shira Plateau to meet up with the Machame Route. Groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are rich in buffalo, elephant and other game.

Rongai Route  This remote and less frequently used route is the second easiest route to Kilimanjaro. The approach to the mountain is from the less-forested north side and the descent is by the Marangu Route. There are several variations, the one described below is a longer route taking in Mawenzi Tarn.

Shira Route  The Shira route, approaches Kilimanjaro’s summit from the west and crosses the caldera of Shira Volcano before heading beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo. The route is seldom used by other trekkers and so your initial two days on the mountain are less crowded than on most other routes.

Mount Kenya Climbing  At 5,199 m, Mount Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa. It is an ancient extinct volcano, during whose period of activity (3.1–2.6 million years ago) it is thought to have risen to 6,500 m. There are 12 remnant glaciers on the mountain, all receding rapidly, and four secondary peaks that sit at the head of the U-shaped glacial valleys. With its rugged glacier-clad summits and forested middle slopes, Mount Kenya is one of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa. The evolution and ecology of its afro-alpine flora also provide an outstanding example of ecological processes. There are three main routes, which penetrate the forest and the moorland. The routes are Naromoru, Sirimon and Chogoria and each of which has something different to offer. Naromoru is the fastest route to point Lenana but not as scenic as the other two. Mt. Kenya's Nelion Summit, Batian Summit and Point Lenana

Mount Kenya Climbing Routes
Sirimon down Sirimon  A more gradual trek to the summit, traversing areas of rich forest cover before emerging into the sprawling moorlands. This hike is usually rated as the easiest among the short trips and is quite popular with persons attempting to reach an altitude exceeding 4000m for the first time. It is a good choice for large trekking groups as it follows the same trail up and down, making it convenient for those who are unable to reach the summit to stay behind at lower camps to wait for the rest of the group to complete the trip then descend together. Unless preferred, camping is not necessary as accommodation is available in a lodge and mountain huts throughout the trip.

Mt Kenya Climb Sirimon down Chogoria  On this Mount Kenya climbing experience, you ascend via the dry and little used Sirimon Trail and descend on the scenic Chogoria Trail. You reach point Lenana (4985 m), the highest point accessible to walkers, and return to base. Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain. Above the habitable altitude, you find a rainforest zone, abundant with many tree species and wildlife too. Further up is open moorland, and beyond is the snow line where vegetation is sparse. Finding snow on the equator was a great surprise for the first Europeans to get to East Africa.

Sirimon down Narumoru  The Naro Moru route is the fastest and therefore also the most popular route onto the mountain, being used by many of the tour and outfitting companies guiding clients up to Point Lenana.

Mount Meru Climbing Mount Meru is one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,5685m, the third highest in Africa.
The mountain is located within Arusha National Park, Tanzania’s gem. This prime location gives walkers the opportunity to spot some of the birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. The ascend is quite steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. The summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro can be seen in the West. There are two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb Meru is between October and February. But also June to September, while it is colder then.
