Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, and the commitment to its preservation shown by the government of Tanzania is important in a country faced by land shortage and a rising population.

Lake Manyara National Park
The lake is renowned among ornithologists for its birds of prey and the famous tree-climbing lions that inhabit the woodland that nestles between the lake and the Rift Valley.

Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest perfect caldera in the world. This outstanding wonder is only one of the attractions within a vast and diverse conservation area

Tarangire National Park
The park derives its name from the Tarangire River which rises in Tanzania's central highland and snakes its way through the length of this sanctuary.

Selous Game Reserve
The vast majority of Tanzania's elephant herd live in one remote stretch of safari wilderness-the Selous Game Reserve. Stigler's Gorge is one of the park's most striking features.

Ruaha
crocodiles bask, hippos wallow and clawless otters zip to and fro. Grazers came down through the acacia to drink under the gaze of lion, leopard, spotted hyena, jackal and hunting dog. Eurasian migrant birds flock here twice a year and join the resident water birds- everything from kingfishers to egrets.

Mt. Kilimanjaro
The mountain owes its existence to the formation of the Great Rift Valley and is actually three volcanic cones that, due to their proximity, became one - Shira, Mawenzi and Kibo- together they make the highest free standing mountain in the world. It is possible to climb this 'wedding cake' mountain all year round although the best times are the dry months of January, February and July through to September.

Mikumi
The main feature here is the open grasslands of the Mikumi flood lain which is bordered on two sides by mountain ranges. On the southern end one can spot the yellow baboon, impalas, reedbucks and other antelope. Some distance to the north are the Hippo Pools dominated by hippo, as well as a variety of waterbirds

Bagamoyo
Bagamoyo was the major slave trading post in East Africa. Bagamoyo, which means ‘lay down your heart’ in Swahili, was probably given this name because Bagamoyo was the last place the slaves would stay in Tanzania before being shipped off to foreign lands.

Arusha National Park Tanzania
Once quoted as being 'a gem among park's this is the closest to Arusha. Visit it and experience the real Tanzania Safari Adventure. The floor is covered by lush swamps and riverine forest and is home to rhino, elephant , buffalo, baboon, warthog, olive baboon and the black and white colobus monkey.

An African Safari is about astonishing sunsets and meeting open-hearted people.

Days 1 Arrive Tanzania

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your lodge, where your  Family Safari begins.

Day 2 – Arusha National Park Tanzania Family Safari
The wonders of Arusha National Park often draw comparison to Mount Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro Crater, its larger counterparts in northern Tanzania. Mount Meru has been called Mount Kilimanjaro’s little cousin, and Ngurdoto Crater, which teems with wildlife, has the nickname “Little Ngorongoro.” Arusha National Park, however, has offerings found nowhere else in the region, including lush mountain forests that are home to the exquisite colobus monkey, and some 575 bird species. The park is truly a hidden gem.

arrow Wildlife safari View the wildlife and diverse landscapes of Arusha National Park from your family’s four-wheel drive Land Rover safari vehicles. Between exploring the open grasslands and the Ngurdoto Crater, you and the kids will likely see buffalo, elephant, giraffe, bushbuck and even rhino. arrow Hike to Mount Meru Waterfall This mountain is an ancient extinct volcano, and at 14,980 feet it is Tanzania’s second tallest mountain. Your family will hike through the lush foothills of Mount Meru and wind your way through the forest to a magnificent waterfall. arrow Picnic lunch beside Momella Lakes Have lunch near the scenic Momella Lakes, a chain of seven shallow alkaline lakes, whose shades sometimes turn emerald and turquoise.

Days 3 and 4 – Tarangire National Park Tanzania Family Safari
This is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park. Spend two full days with your family in Tarangire, exploring its rugged landscapes by safari vehicle and staying in a luxury camp. This park, often overlooked, astonishes many with its massive herds of elephant and distinctive winding riverine landscapes and swampy floodplains. It is also known for its large numbers of bizarre baobab trees, famous for their enormous trunks and root-like branches.

arrow Wildlife safari Game drives in Tarangire weave back and forth over the Tarangire River and around its banks and shores, where it is possible to see lion, leopard, giraffe, gerenuk, reedbuck and even the rare fringe-eared oryx. This river is a major water source for the wildlife of northern Tanzania, especially in the drier months of July through November, when it attracts large concentrations of elephant and zebra. If anyone in your family is a birder, get those binoculars ready: avian species number over 550 here, from lilac-breasted roller and bee-eater to kori bustard and raptor. arrow Swimming After being out on the dusty park trails, take a dip in the pool at a nearby lodge.

Day 5– Ngorongoro Highlands  Tanzania Family Safari
As you travel to the Ngorongoro Highlands en route to the Crater, you and your kids will head up a steep, winding road near the edge of the Great Rift Valley. Make sure to keep your cameras ready on the drive – you will be rewarded with expansive vistas of Lake Manyara and the exquisite surrounding plains. At the top of this slope lie the lush Ngorongoro Highlands, where the region's rich volcanic soil makes for some of the most fertile land in Tanzania.

arrow School visit / Friends Across Borders meeting (pen pals) School visits and pen pal meetings often end up being some of this trip’s greatest highlights. Meet with teachers and students at a school near the town of Karatu and learn more about education in Tanzania. Children traveling with us can choose to exchange letters with a local child of similar age before leaving on their adventure, and meet face to face! It’s amazing how such interaction can be a real eye-opener for everyone involved. arrow Lunch at Gibb’s Farm Have lunch at historic Gibb’s Farm in the Ngorongoro Highlands. A working coffee estate and organic farm, Gibb’s has a history that stretches back to the 1920s, and you’ll enjoy its lovely gardens and hillside setting as you have a delicious lunch. arrow Forest hike Go for a hike with a naturalist through the hills and forests around Gibb’s Farm. While you take in the lush scenery, your family will learn about local herbal medicine and the cultures of the people of this region.

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area Tanzania Family Safari

Drive a short distance from the rural highlands to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a wildlife and cultural preserve that covers 3,200 square miles, of which a mere 102 square miles represent the Ngorongoro Crater. Only members of the Maasai tribe are permitted to live within its boundaries, and they are seen throughout the Highlands and Conservation Area wearing bright red and royal blue cloths and tending to their herds of goats and cattle.

arrow Wildlife safari The Crater floor is reserved only for wildlife. At some ten miles in diameter, this Crater is the largest caldera, or ancient sunken volcano, in the world, and it abounds with one of the highest concentrations of diverse animals imaginable. Adults and children alike find this self-contained environment fascinating, especially because here you will have the opportunity to spot Africa’s renowned Big Five here – buffalo, elephant, leopard, the black-maned lion and the endangered, rare black rhinoceros.

Days 7  and 8 – Serengeti National Park Tanzania Family Safari
Protected since 1921, the Serengeti became Tanzania’s first National Park thirty years later. It comprises some 14% of Tanzania’s total land, and features grassland plains and savanna as well as riverine forest and woodlands. You will see wooded knolls around the official entrance called Naabi Hill Gate, which then drops into the park’s signature wide-open expansive plains. Like no other, this stretch embodies the meaning of the word “Serengeti,” which derives from the Maasai word Siringet, and has been translated as “the land that flows on forever.” Serengeti National Park covers 6,000 square miles of pristine land, and offers not only sprawling landscapes but the largest migration of mammals on earth, including 1.5 million wildebeest (December to March).

arrow Picnic lunch The Naabi Hill Gate offers a pleasant setting for a picnic lunch, with birds and animals hanging out around the entrance. After lunch, take a short walk up Naabi Hill for a view of the surrounding plains. arrow Wildlife safari in the Serengeti Morning and afternoon game drives take your family into the heart of the golden Serengeti. You may spot numerous prides of lions, zebra, hyena, leopards, cheetah, elephant, hippo, buffalo, jackal, gazelle and various primates.

Day 9 – Serengeti National Park / Arusha / Depart Tanzania Family Safari
This park is just one example of how Tanzania has been a magnificent inspiration for the world in terms of wildlife and environmental conservation. We’ll have time for one last game viewing drive before we return to Arusha. Rest, repack, and shower before your departing KLM flight.

arrow Wildlife safari in the Serengeti Morning and afternoon game drives take your family into the heart of the golden Serengeti. You may spot numerous prides of lions, zebra, hyena, leopards, cheetah, elephant, hippo, buffalo, jackal, gazelle and various primates.

Days 10 to 13  – Zanzibar Tanzania Family Safari

One of the famed Spice Islands, Zanzibar has limitless wonders for traveling families, from its pristine beaches with vibrant coral reefs to its cultural and historic tours. For over a millennium, Zanzibar has been known as a powerful Indian Ocean trading hub, with rich cross-cultural history whose influences, whether African, Persian, Portuguese, Arab, Indian or Asian, still continue to thrive today.

arrow Walking tour of Stone Town Explore this historic seaside city center, with its labyrinth of narrow streets, whitewashed Arabesque buildings and mosques, sprawling markets and palm tree-shaded courtyards. Your guided tour will give your family an in-depth and fascinating look at Zanzibar’s history. arrow Beach time Spend the day taking in the local culture of the coast, swimming and relaxing on Zanzibar’s white sand beaches. Along the shore, you might even see Zanzibari fishermen and sea merchants carving or readying their dhows, old Arab-African sailing vessels that have been used to navigate between East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula for centuries. arrow Snorkeling or diving (at extra cost) Vibrant aquatic life make their home along the shores of Zanzibar, including butterfly fish, emperor angel fish, dolphin, lion fish, green turtles and manta rays – just to name a few. If you or the kids are looking to see some exceptional marine wildlife up close, this is your chance. arrow Sunset cruise by dhow Relax and enjoy stunning views from the turquoise waters as we cruise in a traditional dhow at sunset.

Day 14 – Zanzibar / Depart  Tanzania Family Safari

arrow Spice tour Zanzibar and its neighbors became known as the Spice Islands over 200 years ago, with the rise of trade in cloves and other spices, such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and pepper. En route to Stone Town, take a tour of one of Zanzibar’s historic spice farms. arrow Shopping and dinner at the Slipway In Dar es Salaam, the fastest growing city in Africa with its booming Indian Ocean port, you will have dinner on your own and a chance to do some last-minute shopping at the Slipway bazaar of restaurants and boutique shops before boarding your flight home.

Thank you and enjoy Tanzania Family Safari

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Routes

Marangu Route 8 Days  Affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola route", Marangu is by far the most popular route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. This could partly be as a result of the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 6 days, thereby getting to the summit one day earlier than on the Machame route.

Machame Route  Sometimes called the Whisky Route. This is a popular route up steep paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Icefields to join the Barafu Route to the summit.

Umbwe Route  The Umbwe route is one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach. It is probably the most scenic, non-technical route on Kilimanjaro. It is quite taxing, primarily due to the relatively fast ascent to higher altitude, but the rewards are plentiful.

Lemosho Route  This is the longest and most remote route to Kilimanjaro. After beautiful forests and moorlands it crosses the Shira Plateau to meet up with the Machame Route. Groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are rich in buffalo, elephant and other game.

Rongai Route  This remote and less frequently used route is the second easiest route to Kilimanjaro. The approach to the mountain is from the less-forested north side and the descent is by the Marangu Route. There are several variations, the one described below is a longer route taking in Mawenzi Tarn.

Shira Route  The Shira route, approaches Kilimanjaro’s summit from the west and crosses the caldera of Shira Volcano before heading beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo. The route is seldom used by other trekkers and so your initial two days on the mountain are less crowded than on most other routes.

Mount Kenya Climbing  At 5,199 m, Mount Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa. It is an ancient extinct volcano, during whose period of activity (3.1–2.6 million years ago) it is thought to have risen to 6,500 m. There are 12 remnant glaciers on the mountain, all receding rapidly, and four secondary peaks that sit at the head of the U-shaped glacial valleys. With its rugged glacier-clad summits and forested middle slopes, Mount Kenya is one of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa. The evolution and ecology of its afro-alpine flora also provide an outstanding example of ecological processes. There are three main routes, which penetrate the forest and the moorland. The routes are Naromoru, Sirimon and Chogoria and each of which has something different to offer. Naromoru is the fastest route to point Lenana but not as scenic as the other two. Mt. Kenya's Nelion Summit, Batian Summit and Point Lenana

Mount Kenya Climbing Routes
Sirimon down Sirimon  A more gradual trek to the summit, traversing areas of rich forest cover before emerging into the sprawling moorlands. This hike is usually rated as the easiest among the short trips and is quite popular with persons attempting to reach an altitude exceeding 4000m for the first time. It is a good choice for large trekking groups as it follows the same trail up and down, making it convenient for those who are unable to reach the summit to stay behind at lower camps to wait for the rest of the group to complete the trip then descend together. Unless preferred, camping is not necessary as accommodation is available in a lodge and mountain huts throughout the trip. Mt Kenya Climb Sirimon down Chogoria  On this Mount Kenya climbing experience, you ascend via the dry and little used Sirimon Trail and descend on the scenic Chogoria Trail. You reach point Lenana (4985 m), the highest point accessible to walkers, and return to base. Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain. Above the habitable altitude, you find a rainforest zone, abundant with many tree species and wildlife too. Further up is open moorland, and beyond is the snow line where vegetation is sparse. Finding snow on the equator was a great surprise for the first Europeans to get to East Africa.

Sirimon down Narumoru  The Naro Moru route is the fastest and therefore also the most popular route onto the mountain, being used by many of the tour and outfitting companies guiding clients up to Point Lenana.

Mount Meru Climbing Mount Meru is one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,5685m, the third highest in Africa.
The mountain is located within Arusha National Park, Tanzania’s gem. This prime location gives walkers the opportunity to spot some of the birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. The ascend is quite steep, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. The summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro can be seen in the West. There are two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb Meru is between October and February. But also June to September, while it is colder then.
